About Wombat Heights Orchard

Wombat Heights Orchard sits near the village of Wombat in the Hilltops region, close to Young, the self-styled cherry capital of Australia. It is a sister orchard to Hill-Lock Orchard.

Visitors can pick cherries, sugar plums, strawberries and peaches in season, or buy freshly harvested fruit from the shed. There is no entry fee and fruit is sold by the kilogram. Cherries usually ripen from mid-November to around Christmas, though the dates move with the weather.

The orchard asks you to get in touch to check how ripe the fruit is and what is available before you plan the drive. You can call 0481 355 543 or use the contact form on its website, and it posts season updates on its Facebook page. Coaches and larger groups are welcome but must book. There are gardens for a picnic, and a shed called the Grog Shed sells refreshments and homemade preserves. The orchard also runs talks and guided tours.
