Australia picks something nearly all year round. The table shows the usual season for each crop, running from spring through summer to winter, so a cherry season that crosses New Year reads as one run rather than two. Exact dates move from year to year and from farm to farm, so check the farm's own listing and its own announcements before you travel.

Common questions
When does strawberry picking season start in Australia?
It depends which side of the country you are on. In Victoria, South Australia, New South Wales and Western Australia the season runs through spring, roughly September to December. In Queensland it is the opposite: strawberries are a winter crop there, picked from about June to October, with the Sunshine Coast and Caboolture farms at their best in the middle of the year.
When is cherry picking season in Australia?
From about November to early January, peaking either side of Christmas. Victoria has the most pick-your-own cherry orchards, around Bacchus Marsh, the Yarra Valley and Silvan, followed by the Adelaide Hills and the Hilltops district of New South Wales. Cherry orchards often open for only a few weeks and many take bookings, so check before you drive out.
When can you pick apples in Australia?
February to May, which is the Australian autumn. Bilpin in the Blue Mountains is the best known pick-your-own apple district, along with Stanthorpe on the Queensland Granite Belt and the Adelaide Hills.
What can you pick in winter?
Queensland strawberries from June, citrus from about June to September, and truffle hunts in the cool-climate districts from June to August. Winter is quieter than summer everywhere else in the country.
Why do the dates vary so much between farms?
Ripening depends on the weather, the variety and the district, and some farms open only on announced days. The farm's own announcement is what counts: on every listing we carry the most recent dates we could confirm from the farm itself, along with the date we checked.
