About Top of the Hill Orchard
Top of the Hill Orchard is a family run cherry orchard on Spring Creek Road, six kilometres from Young in the Hilltops region, best reached via Rhodes Road. The orchard grows about 3,500 trees across 17 cherry varieties and, after five years selling through a shed, now operates as a pick your own orchard only.
Visitors book a two hour picking time slot online and pay a $10 entry fee per adult at the gate, with children 16 and under free. Trimmed grass pathways give easy access to the trees, and staff are on hand to show visitors how the cherries are grown and how to pick a good one. Picking runs from the start of November through to late December, weather dependent, and the orchard is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 4pm and weekends from 8am to 5pm during the season.
Regional press has reported strong seasons here in recent years, with early varieties such as Empress ready from the first weekend of November. Booking ahead is recommended, as time slots can fill during peak weekends.
