Raspberries: Nov to Jan

Picnic Point Farm is a family-run orchard on the banks of the Mitchell River at Bairnsdale in East Gippsland, best known for its apples but also growing cherries, raspberries, asparagus and rhubarb. The farm runs pick your own raspberry sessions periodically through the season, roughly November to January, with the exact dates announced on its Facebook page.

Waterwheel Orchards

Boolarra South

Raspberries: Nov to Jan

Waterwheel Orchards is a family-run berry farm at Boolarra South in the hills behind the Latrobe Valley, growing raspberries, blackberries and blueberries free of chemicals and sprays. In summer, when the berries are in season, visitors can bring a container and pick their own through the fields. You can also pick blackberries here.

Raspberries: November to 30 April

Bucks Berries is a pick-your-own berry farm on the Bass Highway at Grantville, on the Western Port side of Gippsland. It grows strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, thornless blackberries, tayberries and loganberries, plus a small selection of citrus. You can also pick strawberries, blueberries and blackberries here.

Open: Tuesday, Friday and Sunday. 10am to 5pm

Sunny Creek Organic

Trafalgar South

Raspberries: Dec to Apr, $20 per kilo

Sunny Creek Organic is a fruit and berry farm at Trafalgar South in Gippsland, run by Phil Rowe and Cathie Taylor over more than 30 years. The property holds over a hundred berry varieties, including around 40 kinds of raspberries in red, black, golden, pink and purple, alongside heritage collections of apples, chestnuts and other fruit and nut trees. You can also pick blackberries, blueberries and strawberries here.

Open: Daily during the December-January school holidays (closed Christmas Day); phone ahead in late November and from February to April to check someone is on site. 9am to 5pm
Entry: Farm gate entry $12 per adult, $8 per child (2 to 12 years)
