About Surf Coast Sunflowers

Surf Coast Sunflowers is a pick your own sunflower paddock at Modewarre, run by the Modewarre Flower Collective, three local women growing an estimated ten thousand sunflowers each summer. The patch sits on Considines Road near the corner of Cape Otway Road, next to the Modewarre Public Hall, a short drive south west of Geelong. The season is short and depends on the flowers blooming to schedule, typically opening for about two weeks in early to mid January. During the season the paddock is open daily from 9am to 5pm, with twilight sessions on Friday and Saturday evenings from 5 to 8pm. Entry costs $10 for adults and $5 for children under 18, with a family pass for two adults and two children at $25. Visitors check in at an Airstream trailer near the entrance, then wander the rows at their own pace, with hay bales and a tractor set up as photo spots. Bring your own secateurs if you have them, though spares are available, wear closed toe shoes, and take care walking near the bees. Soft drinks are sold on site and visitors may bring their own picnic. A share of each season's takings goes to local charities.
