Girasole Yarra Valley is a family run u-pick sunflower field at 15 Head Road, Wandin East, about an hour from Melbourne's CBD. The name comes from the Italian word for sunflower, from gira (to turn) and sole (sun). The bloom window lasts around three weeks each year, roughly mid February to mid March depending on the weather, and the farm opens weekends only, 9am to 2pm with two hour sessions and last entry at 1pm. Entry is $10 per adult and free for children under 12. Visitors cut their own sunflowers to take home, paying $6 a stem or $30 for a bunch of six, and can hire secateurs on site for $5. There is parking in a back paddock. As this is a working farm on open dirt paths rather than a landscaped attraction, closed-toe shoes are recommended, along with a hat and sunscreen.
