About Christmas Trees of Tasmania
Christmas Trees of Tasmania is the choose and cut Christmas tree operation run by Lalla Valley Farm, a small family farm in the hills of Lalla, about 30 minutes north of Launceston near Lilydale. Rowan and Lauren Frost bought the property in 2017 and planted their first Christmas trees in 2020, alongside the farm's garlic and prime lamb. Trees are Radiata Pine, with other varieties including Douglas fir and Norway spruce still maturing. Each year the online shop opens around October to November for the current season's stock: visitors pay a deposit, choose a timeslot and then come out to select and cut their own tree from the plantation in the weeks before Christmas. A 4 foot tree costs $70, plus $10 for every additional foot. The farm takes EFTPOS and card payments online or on the day, though cash is a useful backup since rural Tasmanian internet and mobile coverage can be patchy. Because the farm is not set up for casual drop in visits, exact directions are sent by email once a booking is made, rather than published as a street address.
