About Aunita Cherries
Aunita Cherries, also known as East Tamar Cherries, is a family owned cherry orchard at 2280 East Tamar Highway, Mount Direction, about 20 minutes from Launceston in the Tamar Valley. The cherry season runs from December through to February, and during that time the farm opens every day, including Christmas Day and New Year's Day, from 9am until stock sells out. Pick your own picking is offered at selected times through the season rather than on every open day, so visitors should call ahead or check the farm's Google Business Profile or Instagram before travelling out, to confirm picking is available. Shed door sales of hand picked, premium Tasmanian cherries also run throughout the season for anyone who would rather buy fruit ready picked. Beyond the local market, Aunita Cherries sells to retailers on the mainland and exports to Taiwan, China and Singapore, reflecting the quality the family aims for. As with any working orchard, the exact opening dates shift a little each year depending on how the crop ripens, so an early phone call before visiting in December is worthwhile.
