About Cherries at Verdun

Cherries at Verdun is a pick your own cherry orchard at the Gallasch Homestead, 152 Beaumont Road, Balhannah, in the Onkaparinga Valley about 20 minutes from Adelaide. The property has been farmed by the Gallasch family for generations. Picking runs from December into early January, usual hours are 10am to 4pm, and the orchard stays open daily through the season until the cherries are picked out. Trees are trained with plenty of low fruit, making picking manageable for children. Entry costs $8 for adults, children under 5 are free and children aged 6 to 12 are $4. The orchard closes early on days forecast to reach 34 degrees or hotter, and stays closed on catastrophic fire ban days, so it is worth checking the website or Facebook page before driving out. There is a picnic area on site with views over the valley, and EFTPOS is accepted.
