About The Big Strawberry
The Big Strawberry is a working strawberry farm on the Goulburn Valley Highway at Koonoomoo, on the Murray River in northern Victoria. It is owned and operated by Darren and Tarn Hayes. The property covers nine hectares, with around two hectares planted to strawberries roughly two kilometres from the main complex where visitors pick.
The farm runs two strawberry seasons each year, October to January and again April to July, though the exact start and finish depend on growing conditions. There is no entry fee to the patch: visitors pay only for what they pick.
The main complex is open daily from 9am to 3pm, with the cafe kitchen serving until 2pm, and is closed on most public holidays. On site there is a licensed cafe, a production room where the farm's own jams and other strawberry products are made, a giant indoor playground and a history room. The giant strawberry landmark is a well known stop on the Goulburn Valley Highway.
Picking depends on the weather and the state of the patch, so it is worth checking the website or calling ahead before a special trip, particularly outside peak season.
