Fruit picking happens as part of a guided farm tour on a corrugated iron clad bus around the property, not as an open self-serve orchard. Visitors stop to sample and pick fruit in season, including making fresh orange juice from the citrus trees. Harvest Cafe offers morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea for groups by arrangement. On-site camping and farmhouse accommodation also available.
About Catania Fruit Salad Farm
Catania Fruit Salad Farm is a working fruit and nut farm at Hanwood, near Griffith in the Riverina, run by Sharon and Joe Catania. The visit takes the form of a personalised guided tour, starting at the family's original 1912 mud brick home and continuing aboard an old corrugated iron clad bus around the orchard, where visitors sample and pick fruit as it comes into season, including picking oranges from the citrus trees to press fresh juice. Guided tours run Tuesday to Saturday at 1.30pm, with Sunday and Monday visits by booking, and cost around fifty dollars a couple. The farm store, open 1pm to 3pm, sells homemade jams, mustard, pickles, chutney and wine made on the property, and the Harvest Cafe can provide morning tea, lunch or afternoon tea for groups by arrangement. Camping and farmhouse accommodation are also available on site, and dogs are welcome for campers. Phone ahead to book, as the tour and picking experience run to a set schedule rather than open access.
